Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council at its next session plans to consider the issue of the non-fulfillment of its ruling banning the raising of red flags in the region, the regional council's chairman, Oleksandr Sych, has said.

"The law on red flags was not signed by the president, therefore, it did not come into effect. There was no legitimate right to raise red flags during events on May 9. There is no doubt that the regional council’s ruling banning red flags should have been fulfilled," Sych said, the regional council’s press service reported.

According to Sych, the raising of red flags during the Victory Day celebrations was recorded in Ivano-Frankivsk and Kolomyia.

The regional council’s chairman said that representatives of the law enforcement agencies "not just failed to realize the regional council’s decision, but also blocked the activities of deputies of the regional council and councils of lower levels."

According to the press service, in the near future the deputy commission for deputy activity, ethics, regulations, local government, human rights protection, legality and law order will analyze all cases of violation of the regional council’s decision banning the use of red flags, and propose a draft decision by the regional council and measures that will be applied to the law breakers.

On April 15, 2011, Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council banned the raising of red flags on the territory of the region.
