The conditions in Lukyanivka prison are a danger to the health of both prisoners and staff, Ukraine's Human Rights Ombudsman Nina Karpachova said after meeting with people held in this detention facility.

Karpachova’s team visited 208 detainees, including a participant of the protests against the new Tax Code, Ihor Harkavenko, the ombudsman’s press service reported on January 23.

"While examining the conditions in high-security cells, Karpachova talked to all six former law-enforcers, who are held there, including Yevhen Korniychuk and Yuriy Lutsenko," the press service said.

"On the whole, the conditions in the capital city’s Lukyanivka detention center are equally unsafe for the health of both the inmates and the staff who regularly work with them," the press service quoted Karpachova as saying.
