You're reading: Kharkiv officials: Detained protesters are residents of city and region

 The persons detained as a result of an anti-terrorist operation are residents of Kharkiv and Kharkiv region, the head of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's main office in Kharkiv region, Anatoliy Dmytriyev, has said.

 “Sixty-four people were detained. They are residents of Kharkiv and Kharkiv region. According to them, they had no documents with them, and we are currently identifying them,” he told reporters early on Tuesday.

He added that the detainees included one of the most active pro-Russian activists, Yehor Lohvinov.

Dmytriyev also said that these persons had been detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code (detention by an authorized official). After they are identified, the question of selecting a measure of restraint for them will be resolved.

As reported, criminal proceedings were opened over night events in Kharkiv under Part 1, Article 294 of the Criminal Code (mass disturbances).
