You're reading: Kharkiv region council allots funds for Ukraine-Russia border

Kharkiv - Kharkiv Regional Council adjusted the 2014 regional budget at a special session on Thursday, Oct. 2 to allot Hr 3.5 billion for the program to develop and renovate the section of the Ukrainian-Russian border in Kharkiv region in the period until 2015.

The deputies cancelled the program provisions that envisaged checkpoints for simplified border crossing by residents of Kharkiv and Belgorod regions, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reports.

“The threats to national security along the state border make it necessary to review the regional program of development of the section of the Ukrainian-Russian state border in Kharkiv region. With the pending adjustments in mind, it is necessary to assist the Kharkiv border unit (military unit 9951) with engineering equipment at certain areas of the border zone in Kharkiv region,” the council memo said.

An anti-tank ditch and the installation of barbed wire and metal structures on armored approach routes are planned. Some Hr 3.5 million will be allotted in 2014.

The overall funding will stand at Hr 6.090 million, including Hr 3.5 million to be allotted in 2014.
