You're reading: Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant shuts down second reactor for repairs

Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant (NPP) disconnected its second reactor from the country's power grids at 2225 Kyiv time on July 7, 2012 for scheduled medium-term repairs, NJSC Energoatom's press service reported on Monday.

The repairs will continue until September 1, 2012, and will include repairs to a turbine generator, with the replacement of a rotor, the medium-term maintenance of the reactor facility, repairs to safety systems, an overhaul of a range of basic equipment, as well as services to extend the life of equipment.

Thus, as of noon of Monday, 10 out of 15 reactors were in operation at Ukraine’s four nuclear power plants.

The sixth reactor of Zaporizhia NPP is on its 46th day of scheduled medium maintenance, the first reactor of Zaporizhia NPP is on its 3rd day of scheduled medium maintenance, the third reactor of Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP is on its 111th day of scheduled medium maintenance, and the second reactor of Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP is on its 22nd day of scheduled medium maintenance.

Radiation levels and the fire and environmental situations at all Ukrainian NPPs are normal, the press service said.

Energoatom is the operator of all four operating nuclear power plants in Ukraine. It operates the Zaporizhia, Yuzhnoukrainsk, Rivne and Khmelnytsky nuclear power plants, which have 15 VVER reactors with a total electricity generating capacity of 13.835 GW.
