Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said that Ukraine expects the EU will decide to move forward with granting a visa-free regime to Ukraine at the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga, scheduled to be held at the end of May.

“We’re working consistently so that during the summit, a principal decision on moving forward with the visa-free regime for Ukraine is made,” Klimkin said while speaking during a parliamentary hearing.

He said that Ukraine will receive a visa-free regime with the EU after it carries out the entirety of the action plan on visa liberalization.

As reported, the Eastern Partnership summit is due to be held in Riga on May 21-22. The Ukrainian authorities are hoping that after the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga the European Union will recognize Kyiv’s prospects for European integration and will agree to cancel visa requirements from Jan. 1, 2016.
