The issue of granting Ukraine a special partner status is currently being discussed in the United States, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said.
Readiness to provide further assistance to Ukraine exists in the
Congress and Senate and the U.S. already provides such help, Klimkin
said in an interview with Voice of America during his working trip to
the U.S.
And of course, the issue of granting a special ally status to Ukraine
is being discussed now and Ukraine will have new unique opportunities
in the framework of this status, he said.
A wide range of issues has been discussed with U.S. partners,
including those concerning U.S. help, solidarity and assistance in
implementing reforms in Ukraine in the sector of supremacy of law,
economy and in executing the peaceful plan of Ukrainian President Petro
Poroshenko, Klimkin said.
It is very important that support, readiness and wish to implement this in practice were voiced, the minister said.
Poroshenko said earlier that amid the current situation it could be
reasonable to ask the U.S. congress to grant Ukraine a special status –
as to Israel, Australia and Philippines, which are allies outside the
NATO block – in order to resolve the security issue.
