You're reading: Klitschko to check authenticity of Kyiv mayor’s signatures on documents

Vitaliy Klychko's UDAR faction at Kyiv City Council has said it doubts the authenticity of the signatures of Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky on instructions passed by the head of the city state administration to the secretary of Kyiv City Council.

"We don’t know whether this signature is real. How can the mayor sign documents if he is abroad all the time? Do they send him the documents by plane every time," the faction’s press service cited Klychko as saying on Thursday.

"We have a virtual mayor, because he systematically misses sittings of the city council, although chairing them is his constitution obligation. He does not accept residents, and does not communicate with deputies and voters. This situation is unacceptable. Our faction demands the Mayor Chernovetsky report on his activities to Kyiv residents," Klychko said.

Chernovetsky has for some time rarely been seen in public in Kyiv. In fact, many functions of the mayor are carried out by Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov.
