The U.S. Senate's resolution on Ukraine, however recommendatory, is a "red card" for the current Ukrainian government, said leader of the Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform (UDAR), prominent boxer Vitaliy Klitschko.

"While declaring its adherence to democratic principles and Europe-bound aspirations, the Ukrainian authorities are pushing the country further into the abyss of authoritarianism. The world has been observing this for a long time, and it no longer trusts the empty declarations that are at variance with life. I think the parliamentary elections will be the Rubicon beyond which sanctions will or will not be applied to Ukrainian bureaucrats," Klitschko told reporters in Donetsk, according to the UDAR party's press service.

Klitschko also said he doubts the elections will be open and honest.

"This arouses questions, especially if one thinks how district election commissions were formed and how local election commission are being set up now. Everything possible is being done to plant members of pro-government parties, political forces and Party of Regions' satellites on them," Klitschko said.
