About 70-80 hotels are to be constructed or reconstructed in Ukraine ahead of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship at a cost of over $2 billion, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov has reported.

"From 70 to 80 [hotels] are to be built in the country. On average, the reconstruction of one such facility costs about 30-35 million dollars, and an approximate figure for investment in the hotel business will be more than two billion [dollars]. But it will be possible to finally determine the amount by May 1, 2012," he said in Donetsk on Wednesday after the opening of the renovated Shakhtar Plaza Hotel, the Ukraine 2012 Information Center reported.

He noted that the second stage of the Victoria Hotel would be commissioned in Donetsk in a month, and added that the Europe Hotel would then be opened and that the Ukraine and Kyiv hotels would be reconstructed.

"There’s less comfort for rich fans. Unfortunately, it will be impossible to satisfy everybody," Kolesnikov said, while speaking about the lack of five-star hotels.

Shakhtar Plaza Hotel has 322 comfortable rooms equipped with air conditioning, mini bars and mini fridges, LCD TVs with access to 30 TV channels and Internet access in rooms and the lobby.

The hotel is located a few hundred meters from the main Euro 2012 stadium in Donetsk – Donbass Arena.
