The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has received a preliminary confirmation that Ukrainian citizen Halyna Kolotnytska, a former private nurse of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, is in Norway.

"According to preliminary reports, she is really in Norway, most likely in a refugee camp. She has not breached the law of this country, and the Norwegian side has no criticisms regarding her stay," a Foreign Ministry representative told Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.

He said that in principle, an appeal by a Ukrainian citizen to the migration authorities of Norway with a request to grant asylum was his or her private matter. He said that Ukrainian diplomats had at their own initiative asked the concerned authorities of Norway to confirm or deny this information – solely for informative purposes.

"The Embassy of Ukraine in Norway turned to the law enforcement authorities of this country with a request to confirm or deny that there had been an appeal by Ukrainian citizen Halyna Kolotnytska regarding the provision of asylum," the ministry said.
