The national football team of Ukraine won't go to Cyprus for a friendly match against the United States on Mar. 5, according to the President of the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) Anatoliy Konkov.

“If we don’t conduct the championship, if we together with people experience the same thing that our whole country does, what kind of football can we even talk about? When we can’t play on our territory and the match was scheduled for Mar. 5 in Ukraine, why should we go to Cyprus and play football there? We want to play in our country, our home. We play for the people,” he said on the ICTV television channel on Monday night.

Konkov said he was sure that this was the right choice by the FFU, chief coach of the national team Mykhailo Fomenko, and the footballers of the Ukrainian team.

“The team isn’t going to Cyprus and we are staying here,” he said.
