You're reading: Kozhara urges US Jewish community to support Ukraine’s rapprochement with EU

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara met on Tuesday with representatives of the Jewish community in New York during his working visit to the United States, according to the ministry's information policy department.

According to the report, the meeting took place at the Ukrainian Institute of America in New York. The meeting participants discussed the development of the Ukrainian-American relations, the support of cultural and humanitarian needs of the Jewish community in Ukraine and the matter of preserving the Jewish cultural attractions in Ukraine.

Kozhara praised the contribution of the Jewish community in the U.S. into the development of the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the U.S., and urged them to continue supporting Ukraine’s rapprochement with the European Union, the Foreign Ministry said.

On Tuesday, Kozhara also met with top managers of big U.S. companies. “The meeting was attended by over 40 representatives of leading U.S. companies that are already working on the Ukrainian market or are interested in establishing business in Ukraine (in particular, representatives of the Coca-Cola Company and the Westinghouse Electric Company),” the report says.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the possibility of attracting U.S. investment in agriculture and energy sector, the prospects for the IT market development and the government’s steps to improve the business environment in Ukraine.

“U.S. businessmen expressed their support for the European integration of our country and the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU in November of this year. They also addressed the matter of the soonest conclusion of a new loan agreement between Ukraine and the IMF,” the Foreign Ministry said.
