The companions and relatives of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko cannot pass a New Year tree to her, a defense lawyer for the ex-premier, Andriy Kozhemiakin, has said.

“We have not currently passed the New Year tree, but we will make sure that
Yulia Volodymyrivna [Tymoshenko] gets the tree, and she already has the toys,”
he told reporters on Thursday after meeting with the former prime minister in
Ukrzaliznytsia’s Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 in Kharkiv.

He also expressed regret that Tymoshenko would see in the second New Year
behind bars.

“It’s very disappointing. Today, while talking to Yulia Volodymyrivna, I told
her that our team has not really done everything in the outgoing year to get her
freed,” Kozhemiakin said.

The Kharkiv regional branch of the Batkivschyna Party said that it had passed
unbreakable plastic toys to Tymoshenko, but could not pass an artificial New
Year tree, which the prison service refused to accept.
