You're reading: Kravchuk: Ukrainian MPs who asked Polish Sejm to recognize Volyn tragedy as ‘genocide’ of Poles committed treason

A statement from 148 Ukrainian MPs who asked the Polish Sejm to recognize the Volyn tragedy as "genocide" of Poles can be compared with treason, and the Party of Regions should have assessed the actions of its representatives who joined such a statement, first Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk has said live on Channel 5.

“The parliament must assess the actions of 148 MPs who actually betrayed the national interests of Ukraine, and not because they have their own opinion, but because they asked another state to negatively evaluate Ukrainian history. The Party of Regions, I’m not talking about the Communists, could have at least removed from party leadership those who initiated the idea of such an address, those who sacrificed Ukrainian honor, dignity and conscience and chose the path of betrayal, the path of national betrayal,” the channel’s press service quoted Kravchuk as saying.
