Moscow - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev may discuss energy issues with his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovych during a visit to Donetsk on October 18, presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko said.

"I think they will continue the debate on energy too. The appropriate preparations are being done today," Prikhodko told a briefing in Moscow on Monday.

On Monday, Medvedev will take part in the 2nd Russian-Ukrainian Interregional Economic Forum together with Yanukovych.

The forum will address technological cooperation between the regions and interregional industrial cooperation.

"No commercial contracts are expected to be signed because it’s not an interstate commission, but a regional forum," Prikhodko said.

"The meeting with Yanukovych will also address other issues, including political dialogue between Russia and Ukraine," Prikhodko said.

In particular, the two presidents will discuss the preparations for the CIS summit, which is due to take place in Moscow in December, and probably the issue of organizing a meeting of the Russian-Ukrainian interstate commission.

The meeting will also address investment cooperation, humanitarian cooperation issues, etc.

Speaking about the issues to be addressed at the forum, Prikhodko said that "despite the problems, in particular, in the fuel and energy sector, regional cooperation continues to develop confidently."

"We feel the interests of the Ukrainian regions and the support of the Ukrainian legislation. We don’t see any constraining factors here," he said.

Prikhodko added that there are no plans to make any revolutionary achievements at the forum, where the governors and regional authorities will give their evaluations of the work done by the public structures within the framework of interregional cooperation.
