Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov has declined to elaborate on yesterday's telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

During the conversation the Russian president “agreed to the
chancellor’s proposal to set up a fact-finding mission and a contact
group, possibly under the aegis of the OSCE (Organization for Security
and Co-operation in Europe), for launching a political dialogue on
Ukraine,” according to a statement posted on the German government’s
website on Monday.

“Putin and Merkel have agreed to continue consultations both
bilaterally (through their foreign ministries) and multilaterally with
the aim to help normalize the sociopolitical situation in Ukraine,”
according to the Kremlin press office.

The Russian President’s press secretary said he sees no need to elaborate further on this information.
