Russian President Vladimir Putin had brief conversations with his French and American counterparts, Francois Hollande and Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Ukrainian President-elect Petro Poroshenko during an event marking the 70th anniversary of D-Day, the Kremlin spokesman said.
“On the sidelines of an official lunch marking the 70th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy that was hosted by the French president, President Putin had brief standup conversations with Francois Hollande, Angela Merkel and Ukrainian President-elect Petro Poroshenko. During their short discussion, both Putin and Poroshenko advocated the earliest possible end to bloodshed in southeastern Ukraine and to hostilities on both sides, both by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and by the supporters of the federalization of Ukraine,” Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
“It was reaffirmed that there is no alternative to a peaceful, political way of settling the situation,” Peskov said.
