The Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) has invited Ukraine's ex-president Leonid Kuchma to attend festivities on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's space flight in Moscow on April 12, Kuchma's Foundation's Web site, "Ukraine," said on Thursday.

In 1986-1992, Kuchma was the general director of Yuzhmash, one of the biggest space rocket manufacturers.

The statement does not say whether Kuchma, who signed a document imposing travel restrictions on him, asked the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office for permission to go abroad.

The Prosecutor General’s Office had earlier allowed Kuchma to visit Dnipropetrovsk on April 5 to attend a farewell ceremony for Yuzhnoye Design Bureau’s General Director and chief design engineer Stanislav Konyukhov.
