You're reading: Kwasniewski: EU preparing economic assistance offer for Ukraine

A member of the European Parliament's observation mission to Ukraine, former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski, has said that the European Union was forming an economic assistance offer for Ukraine as part of the preparations for the signing of the Association Agreement.

“I take part in many conversations and I know that the EU is trying to create an economic package that could really help Ukraine, but it will be too late,” he said in an interview with Polish radio ZET.

According to Kwasniewski, if Russia applied rough measures that resulted in the loss of dozens of millions of U.S. dollars for Ukraine’s economy, then a question emerges – will Europe or the international community manage to help Ukraine.

“This is a very important question for both the European Union and the International Monetary Fund,” he said.

He also said that the EU should have thoroughly considered the situation with the results of Russia’s pressure on Ukraine earlier, and if it had, the preparations for the signing of the Association Agreement probably would not have been halted today.

On the other hand, Kwasniewski said that relations between the governments of Ukraine and Russia could get closer.
