You're reading: Kyiv court rules for Yanukovych arrest in absentia

Pechersky District Court has in Kyiv has ruled to arrest former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in absentia, the Prosecutor General's Office said. 

“At the request of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office, the Kyiv Pechora District Court ruled on January 19, 2015, to arrest of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych,” the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a statement.

It said the ordered restrictive measure would enable detectives of the Prosecutor General’s Office to demand his extradition from Russia.
