You're reading: Kyiv court suspends Crimean parliament’s decision to hold referendum

The District Administrative Court in Kyiv has suspended a decision of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea on holding a referendum, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, the PGO's press service has reported. 

According to the report, the court passed this ruling on Friday with a viewto of launching proceedings in the frames of the lawsuit by the PGO. According to the ruling, all persons are prohibited from taking any steps aimed at executing the Crimean parliament’s decision.

The Prosecutor General’s Office earlier filed a lawsuit to the District Administrative Court in Kyiv asking it to declare unlawful and cancel the said resolution, by which the Crimean parliament, ignoring constitutional principles and violating the law, decided to join the Russian Federation and hold a local referendum on the issue on March 16.
