Kyiv lacks in information from Russia regarding the investigation into an incident in the Sea of Azov in which four Ukrainian fishermen were killed and one survived and was detained in Russia.

“We think that this cooperation in a joint investigation, which
Ukraine demanded in the first few days following the tragedy, is
insufficient. The Ukrainian side has received little information on
Russia’s investigation into this incident, which caused the death of
four our compatriots,” Director of the Information Policy Department at
the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Yevhen Perebyinis said at a press
briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Kyiv hopes that the investigation into the incident in which four
Ukrainians were killed and the case against Ukrainian fisherman
Oleksandr Fedorovych will be fair, and the Ukrainian side will have
access to all necessary information, Perebyinis said.

“We hope that Russia will respond to all of our requests,” he said.

As reported, a Ukrainian fishing vessel and a Russian patrol boat
collided in the Sea of Azov off the coast of the Russian village of
Vorontsovka at about 1800 on July 17.

The fishing boat capsized and, as a result, four Ukrainians died and
one survived. The Ukrainian survivor, Oleksandr Fedorovych, underwent
surgery on July 19 in a hospital in Yeysk, in Russia’s Krasnodar
territory.

A criminal case against the surviving fisherman is being investigated
in Russia. Russian law enforcement authorities have already charged the
Ukrainian national under Part 3, Article 256 of the Russian Criminal
Code (illegal fishing). Fedorovych is facing up to two years in prison.
