You're reading: Kyiv may have price for Russian gas lowered regardless of joining Customs Union

Kyiv and Moscow may reach an agreement on lowering the price for natural gas Ukraine buys from Russia regardless of Ukraine's accession to the Belarusian-Kazakh-Russian Customs Union, although Customs Union membership would guarantee that Ukraine would have a discount on this price, Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov said.

“What I know now regarding how gas cooperation would be maintained in the future, considering the Ukrainian gas transportation system, the price for Russian gas and a number of related issues, signals that the Russian and Ukrainian leaderships have found approaches due to which the price for Russian gas could be lowered out of the context of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union,” Zurabov told journalists on Friday.

“Surely, Ukraine’s accession to the Customs Union would undeniably mean that Ukraine will receive Russian gas at the same price as the other Customs Union members,” Zurabov said.
