President of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Serhiy Kvit has said that Education Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk is not interested in the academy as "an effective autonomous university without corruption."

"If our university is prevented from developing normally, then I have only such an explanation: obviously, the minister does not need such a precedent as an effective university that, moreover, is operating without corruption," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

Kvit said that the ministry does not approve of the rules for the admission of applicants to the academy for next year, and is insisting on the cancellation of compulsory English testing during admission.

"Part of the educational process is in English, therefore we have to demand such tests," he said.

Kvit noted that if the English language tests were cancelled, then it would also be necessary to cancel teaching in English, contacts with foreign universities, and exchanges based on English. He also said that there was nothing illegal in compulsory testing in English.
