You're reading: Kyiv prosecutor’s office brings 185 corrupt officials to justice in 2012

In 2012, law enforcement agencies of Kyiv sent to court 111 criminal cases involving corruption and 98 infringement notices, according to the media relations department of the prosecutor's office in Kyiv. 

As the result of these proceedings, 185 offenders have been already subjected to the criminal and administrative liability for bribery, Kyiv Prosecutor Mykola Beskyshky said.

Last year, a senior official of the Agriculture and Food Ministry and an official of State Veterinary and Biosecurity Service of Ukraine were brought to justice for bribery, he said.

According to the prosecutor, the prosecutor’s office and the Security Service also sent to court two high-profile criminal cases against the officials of the Academy of Pedagogic Sciences of Ukraine and the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine last year.

“The court is currently hearing a criminal case concerning the officials of the Institute of Pedagogy of the Academy of Pedagogic Sciences of Ukraine, who demanded $11 million for the lease and the further privatization of a non-residential building in downtown Kyiv. Criminal proceedings in relation to one of the high-placed officials of the National Television and Broadcasting Council of Ukraine, who took Hr 40,000 and promised to issue a software services provider license to a commercial enterprise, continue,” Beskyshky said.
