You're reading: Kyiv ready to amnesty Ukrainians fighting for Kremlin-backed insurgents not guilty of crimes against Ukraine

People fighting for the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics may be eligible for amnesty if they have not committed crimes against Ukraine, anti-terrorist operation spokesman Andriy Lysenko said.

“Certain Ukrainians fighting for the LPR and DPR may be amnestied unless they have committed grave crimes against Ukrainian servicemen and citizens and if they are cooperative with the Ukrainian law enforcement authorities,” Lysenko told Interfax-Ukraine on Dec. 26.

The amnesty should be declared, he said. “Most probably, this will be done soon,” he said.
