NEW YORK - Claims by Kyiv officials, including Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk, that Ukraine will renounce its non-aligned status are not helping the peace process in the country's eastern regions, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

‘Sometimes the impression is that some members of the Ukrainian government, in particular, Mr. Yatseniuk who was appointed by Verkhovna Rada as Prime Minister, he does not support the steps leading to the normalization of the situation in the southeast of Ukraine,’ Lavrov told a press conference in New York on Friday.

The minister added: ‘All this is not helping the steps that are being undertaken, as I understand, at the behest of President Poroshenko.
