Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko, who was kidnapped in Luhansk region and brought to a detention center in Voronezh, has not taken direct part in the hostilities in Donbas, her Russian defence lawyer Mark Feigin has said.
“Savchenko did not participate in hostilities per se, she was engaged in the work of support units, carried out the wounded and the dead,” he wrote on Twitter on July 16.
He also confirmed that the pilot went on a hunger strike demanding a meeting with the Ukrainian consul.
“She was on a hunger strike for eight days demanding a meeting with Ukraine’s representatives and lawyers. Now she is not fasting,” the lawyer said.
As for the crimes, with which Savchenko is charged in Russia, Feigin wrote: “She did not kill the Russian journalists.”
