You're reading: Local elections not to be held in 91 cities in Donetsk Oblast, 31 in Luhansk Oblast

The Ukrainian Central Elections Commission deems impossible to hold the Oct. 25 local elections in 91 cities in Donetsk region and 31 cities in Luhansk region situated close to the frontline. The Commission made its decision on Saturday proceeding from reports of the heads of Donetsk and Luhansk Region Military-Civilian Administrations, Pavlo Zhebrivsky and Heorhiy Tuka.

The resolution said local elections would not be held in Debaltseve, Kostiantynivka, Dokuchayevsk, Dzerzhynsk, Avdiyivka, Artmevisk, Maryinka and a number of populated localities in seven districts: Artemivsk, Volnovakha, Volodarske, Kostiantynivka, Maryinka, Starobesheve and Yasynuvata in Donetsk region.

There will be no elections in Schastia, Popasna and a number of populated localities in Novoaidar, Popasna and Stanytsia Luhanska districts of Luhansk region.

In accordance with the law on local elections, the Donetsk and Luhansk regional councils will not be elected either.

Mariupol and Lysychansk were not included in that list although such proposals were made by Governors Zhebrivsky and Tuka.
