Director of UEFA Euro 2012 in Ukraine Markiyan Lubkivsky has said that the championship will be held anyway.

"What boycott? The tournament will be held whatever the weather," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on May 8.

He said UEFA has commented on the situation of the statements by European politicians on Euro 2012 in Ukraine numerous times.

"I have nothing special to add. I would like to stress that a boycott of a big sports event, in particular Euro 2012, is not the best way in which legal and political problems should be tackled," he said.

Lubkivsky added that some time ago all political forces in Ukraine had vowed not to use Euro 2012 for political aims.

"And I hope that all of the big political players will stick to the guarantees they gave to UEFA," he added.

Lubkivsky also said that the local organizing committee has no information that any European football teams would refuse to take part in the championship.
