The shelling of Luhansk continues but the sound of gunfire is heard less often, the city council said.

“On the 26th day, Luhansk remains cut off from power supplies, the situation in the city remains critical: there is no light, no water, there is no communications whatsoever. According to residents, the shelling of Luhansk continues, but the sounds of shots and shell explosions have been heard less often,” the spokesperson said on Aug. 28.

According to city residents, shelling has caused serious damage to residential buildings in the village of Yubileiny, in Radianska, Dalekoskhidna, and Liniova streets; shells also hit a market in the Pivdenny quarter, and other parts of the city, the spokesperson said.

There is no supply of foodstuffs, medication and fuel into Luhansk, the absence of water remains critical, “long queues are forming for bread and essentials, the only goods on sale,” the spokesperson said. Luhansk residents also said that some have managed to get humanitarian aid packets.

“People have run out of money, as no salaries, pensions and social payments have been paid out in the city for a long time,” the spokesperson said.
