Luhansk - A Ukrainian army transport aircraft has been shot down by a militia near the village of Izvaryne, a spokesperson for the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic said.

“About an hour ago (1 a.m. Moscow time) militiamen armed with MANPADs
(man portable air defense systems) shot down a military transport
aircraft of the Ukrainian forces,” the spokesperson told Interfax.

“The plane crashed near the village of Dolzhano-Nikolsky,” the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said they saw several parachutists and cargo drop from the plane.
