There will be no Ukrainian presidential election in the so-called Luhansk People's Republic on May 25 due to the new status of the region, Army of the Southeast spokesman Vasyl Nikitin told a press conference in Luhansk on May 12.

“The election might have taken place in Luhansk region. But we have become the Luhansk People’s Republic. So, the election will not be held,” he said.

Luhansk Regional Council lost its legitimacy at the moment of the proclamation of the republic, Nikitin said.

In his words, the authorities of the new republic are drawing up a request for recognition, which will be filed with the United Nations.

He also said Luhansk would have a gala concert on May 12 night.
