You're reading: Luhansk remains quiet on Victory Day

The self-defense forces in Luhansk have tightened security ahead of a rally to mark the Victory Day, a leader of the Luhansk militia, Oleksiy Chmilenko, has told Interfax.

“Provocations are not ruled out. We have information suggesting that several sniper groups have entered the city in the guise of civilians, who can try and derail the festive rally. Therefore, the people’s governor, Valeriy Bolotov, urged Luhansk residents not to turn up at the rally. But people keep coming nevertheless,” he said.

The leaders of the “Luhansk People’s Republic” have conveyed their greetings to World War II veterans who live in the region, he added.

The situation is quiet in Luhansk region.
