Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said he was ready to render any assistance and support to Ukraine but strongly objected to mediation.

“If you need any help – excluding mediation, this is out of the question, I hate mediation – if you need the help of a person who takes everything that is happening in Ukraine very close to heart, I am ready to give you this support any time, the assistance you may need,” Lukashenko told Ukrainian Ambassador Mykhailo Yezhel in Minsk on May 15.

Yezhel thanked the Belarusian president for the words of support for his country and the Ukrainian people.

“Thank you for your unwavering and clear position. Every kind word said on the situation Ukraine has found itself in is good support,” the diplomat said.

He recalled that many ideas of Lukashenko gained 100 percent of the support of the audience in the Shuster Live program.

“Five or six of your ideas gained 100 percent support of the Ukrainian people,” the ambassador said, adding “Even the most acclaimed politicians rarely gain 100 percent support of their speeches and this means a great deal,” Yezhel stressed.

In his words, Ukraine can feel the Belarusian support. “We can feel the attitude of Belarus and this meeting with the interim [President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov] has given a boost and helped us understand that we truly are and will be brothers,” Yezhel said.
