Former Ukrainian Interior Minister, Leader of the People's Self-Defense Party Yuriy Lutsenko is pleased with the dismissal of Leonid Chernovetsky as the head of Kyiv City State Administration and the appointment of Oleksandr Popov to this post.

"Any person not named Chernovetsky being at this position is a step forward. I know Popov as a good manager, and I have not heard about his violations of the law, which is already good," Lutsenko said during a chat on the Korrespondent website on Tuesday.

He added: "Unfortunately, the liberation of Kyiv from Chernovetsky and his zealous team was long delayed." According to Lutsenko, in spring 2008 President Viktor Yuschenko "had every reason to do this."

"So, today’s dismissal is an absolute blessing for Kyiv and a lesson for plotters: a squeezed lemon always ends up in the dustbin," the former minister said.
