Former Interior Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko has said that the European Union has to send a mission to Ukraine as soon as possible in order to prevent a political collapse in the country.

“In this situation we need Europe to send an urgent mission to
prevent a political collapse in Ukraine… We need serious European
leaders to become mediators between [Ukrainian President Viktor] Yanukovych and the people,” he told a press conference in Kyiv on
Wednesday.

Lutsenko also said that if the EU does not want to lose Ukraine, it
has to be not just an observer but also an ally for the pro-European
majority of Ukrainians that are protesting at mass rallies.

“If the authoritarian government can’t hear the voice of democracy,
Europe has to hit the weak point of this regime – their accounts, real
estate and businesses abroad,” he said.
