Iryna Lutsenko, the wife of former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, is planning to consult with independent Ukrainian doctors within two or three days regarding the need for her husband to undergo surgery after doctors examined and gave a diagnosis.

“This afternoon, Iryna Lutsenko took the results of the medical
examination from Chernihiv Regional Hospital in order to consult with
independent doctors in Kyiv regarding surgery,” reads a statement posted
on the Web site of the People’s Self-Defense Party on Thursday.

She noted that she wanted to hear advice from independent doctors whether Lutsenko now needs to undergo surgery.

“If surgery is necessary, then for how long can it be postponed? Can
it be done after Lutsenko spends two more years in prison? We need to
understand what risks it can cause to his health. After the surgery, my
husband will have to return to the colony. And there everything is under
control, under pressure,” she said.

As reported, on December 3, Lutsenko was transferred from Mena Penal Colony to Chernihiv Regional Hospital for an examination.

On December 5, media reported, citing sources, that doctors had found
a polyp in the intestine of the former minister during his examination
in Chernihiv Regional Hospital.
