Lviv, December 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Lviv City Council has approved a program to prepare a bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, the press service of Lviv city council has reported.

A decision on this was taken at a council session on Thursday.

The program foresees the preparation of documents that meet the demands of
the International Olympic Committee, the elaboration of a concept for building
sport facilities, and support for the Olympic and Paralympic movement in
Ukraine, as well as an information campaign to promote Lviv as possible
candidate to host Winter Olympics 2022.

“For Lviv to host an Olympics will take a jump to completely change [our] infrastructure and to achieve a new level,” the press service quotes acting the
director of the Euro 2012 department of Lviv City Council, Andriy Moskalenko, as
saying.

He stressed that hosting of Euro 2012 matches in Lviv was would be an impetus
for the economy and promoting the city.

“In the last three years the city created about 10,000 new jobs… last year
1.4 million tourists visited Lviv, and by the end of 2013 this number will be
1.6-1.9 million of tourists. This was a new stage, through which we got a new
stadium and a new airport,” Moskalenko said.
