Lviv municipal council decided to convene a session on May 8 to confer the honorary citizen of the city title on Stepan Bandera, reads a statement made by the city council press service.

Reforms and Order party faction is initiating bestowing the Honorary Citizen of Lviv title to Stepan Bandera, the leader of the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists from 1930s through 1950s.

"This will be a response to the Donetsk court which deprived Bandera of the Hero of Ukraine title since it consider him to be not the citizen of Ukraine," said faction leader Oleh Bas.

In his words, Lviv has to confirm that Bandera remains a hero for it.

He added that many of the council members backed his initiative.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Ternopil municipal council on April 30 passed a decision to confer the honorary citizen of the city title on Stepan Bandera and on Roman Shukhevych, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.

Ivano-Frankivsk municipal council decided to convoke an extraordinary session on May 6 to bestow Bandera and Shukhevych with the honorary citizen of the city title.

Ternopil municipal council made the same decision on April 30.
