NOVOHRAD-VOLYNSKY – The date for the Kyiv mayoral election will be determined after the parliamentary elections, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has said.

“The Verkhovna Rada received a letter from Kyiv City Council, signed
by its secretary, with the request to take a Verkhovna Rada decision on
the election of the city mayor. The [Verkhovna Rada] committee [on state
building and local government] has not currently received any
conclusions and recommendations,” he said during his visit to
Novohrad-Volynsky (Zhytomyr region) on Tuesday, when asked whether the
concerned committee took a decision in connection with a city council
letter on setting the date of the mayoral election in Kyiv.

“I think that the committee is facing a difficult decision, a
difficult recommendation, given that this decision will have a political
basis one way or another and it is very important that there is
political understanding and compromise,” he said.

According to the speaker, it will be necessary to take a decision when parliamentary political forces are ready for this.

“As far as I feel and know, there are complex discussions, estimates
and forecasts… Everything will depend on the results of the
parliamentary elections,” Lytvyn said.
