Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has said that a public meeting with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych should be held with the participation of the leaders of all parliamentary factions - both the opposition and the majority.

"As for a meeting between opposition members and the Ukrainian president, I think that it’s their right to suggest such a meeting to the president, and it’s the president’s right to decide on such a meeting," he said at a briefing on Monday during his working visit to Zhytomyr region.

"As for a general meeting, if the time is determined and invitations are sent, I think that the leaders of the factions will participate in it. I think they will have a great opportunity to express their position and their vision of what is happening in the country," Lytvyn said.

At the same time, Lytvyn said that he was a little surprised at the opposition’s demand to meet with the president without the participation of representatives of the majority factions.

He said that the president would have to decide on the format of such a meeting.
