The amount of illegal financing for the construction of a separate special telecommunications network, organized by former senior officials, was Hr 220 million, the press center of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has said.

The report notes that based on the SBU’s materials the Prosecutor General’s Office opened criminal proceedings on the fact of embezzlement and misappropriation of funds of the national budget of Ukraine in a large scale by the former leadership of the country, the State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection, ESU LLC, and OJSC Ukrtelecom.

“It was found out that in 2010-2013 Viktor Yanukovych in a criminal conspiracy with other officials – Mykola Azarov, Yuriy Kolobov, Anatoliy Miarkovsky, head of the State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection Hennadiy Reznikov, member of the supervisory council of Ukrtelecom and director of ESU LLC Illia Solodovsky – planned a crime and illegally made changes to the national budget, due to which the construction of a special communications network was illegally financed, which cost the state Hr 220 million,” the press center of the SBU said.

Under the terms of the contract on the sale and purchase of shares in OJSC Ukrtelecom this work should have been carried out exclusively by the purchaser – ESU LLC.

On Sept. 30 the Prosecutor General’s Office notified of the mentioned persons about suspicion of committing the crime. The investigation is continuing.
