The main phase of evacuation of Ukrainians from Libya has ended, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

"The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine is convinced that despite a certain cooling of political tensions in Libya, the risk for Ukrainians staying in this country has not disappeared. In this regard, we continue to take every effort to evacuate our citizens, but the main phase of this process has been completed," Director of the Ministry’s Information Policy Department Oleh Voloshyn told Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.

According to the Ukrainian Embassy in Libya, the number of Ukrainians who applied to leave the country has dropped, and only a few Ukrainians still want to return home. They will be evacuated by Ukrainian means of transport, or with the assistance of other states.

Voloshyn said that in total Ukraine evacuated about 200 of its citizens, and several hundred still remain in Libya.

"As for the total number of Ukrainian citizens registered in Libya at the outbreak of the confrontation, the figure of 2,500 to 3,000 turned out to be an overestimate," he said.
