Members of the Mariupol town council have said that local people will not support the protesters who attacked a Mariupol military base in the early hours of April 17.

“Having been elected by the people and knowing the sentiments of
residents and fulfilling the instructions of our voters, we hereby
declare to those who seize buildings, show aggression and violence:
leave Mariupol alone. Your actions have already led to bloodshed, so do
not expect support from our citizens,” members of the Mariupol town
council of the sixth convocation said in a letter published on Thursday.

Mariupol parliamentarians called on all citizens “to show wisdom and
concern about safety of their loved ones ” and “unite to preserve peace
and order in their hometown.”
