The Russian Investigative Committee has opened its regional units in two new constituent territories of Russia - Crimea and Sevastopol, Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said.

“Investigative departments of the Russian Investigative Committee
have been established and launched their operations in the Republic of
Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. Investigative Committee Chairman
Alexander Bastrykin ordered his subordinates to deal with organizational
issues, technical equipment and staffing of the new territorial units
of the Russian Investigative Committee,” Markin told Interfax on
Tuesday.

From now on crimes perpetrated in the new constituent territories of
Russia “will be judged pursuant to Russian penal laws,” he said.

“Criminal inquiries within the Russian Investigative Committee’s
jurisdiction will be conducted by Investigative Committee detectives
consistent with the norms of the Russian Criminal Procedure Code,”
Markin said.
