You're reading: Medvedev: Ukraine’s administration should be legitimate

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Russia will be trying to fulfill all agreements with Ukraine, but full-fledged cooperation requires that the Ukrainian administration be legitimate and "toned" and protect its citizens.

“Of course, we will continue cooperation with our Ukrainian partners
in all areas in which we have reached agreements, we will try to do
everything to fulfill the promises given to them. At the same time, our
partners need to be toned and the Ukrainian administration needs to be
legitimate and effective,’ Medvedev told a Russian government meeting on
Thursday.

“For this reason, we are following all agreements. At the same time,
we are operating on the assumption that the authorities should focus on
protecting people and protecting the law enforcement structures that
defend the interests of the state and protect the people. This is the
only way to develop full-fledged economic cooperation,” he said.

“I would ask the other government officials to take this stance,” Medvedev said.
