German Chancellor Angela Merkel has assured Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko of her readiness to facilitate the provision of financial aid to Ukraine and humanitarian aid to the Donbas.

According to the president’s Web site, this was announced at a meeting in Brussels on Saturday, Aug. 30.

“During the meeting, the parties discussed the participation of the president in the meeting of the European Council and preparations for its final document – an EU resolution. Angela Merkel expressed consistent support in the realization of the Ukrainian president’s peace plan and its immediate implementation. German Chancellor also noted that [she] was ready to facilitate the provision of financial aid to Ukraine and humanitarian aid to the Donbas,” reads the statement.
