Militants of the self-proclaimed "Donetsk People's Republic" took over the Ukrainian National Guard's military unit No. 3004 in Donetsk following a seven-hour gun battle with the unit's convoy battalion, a National Guard spokesman said early on Friday morning, June 27.
The battalion commander was taken captive, while battalion servicemen were moved to another military unit, the spokesman said.
According to earlier reports, three attempts were made by militants to seize military unit No. 3004 in Donetsk.
